A big pat on the back to Zen Internet. My ADSL just died and failed to reconnect with an authentication error, and not only was their customer service still open at 18:45, but the phone was answered within three rings by someone who knew what he was talking about and was able to talk me through testing the connection with a different username and then re-entering my username and password, which for some reason fixed it.

...and that's one of the reasons I'm with Zen.

You were fortunate. Zen tech support is only open 8-8 Monday through Friday, 9-5 at the weekends. They close completely on Bank Holidays. Most other ISPs have 24/7/365 tech support lines even for home/SOHO accounts.

aah the old session timeout issue. logging in with a test account forcibly drops a buggered session. so when you try wiht your usual account it normally works again.
otherwise you have to wait for timeouts.

back in the day i would do that before calling tech support since its what they would ask us to do first anyway. if youd already tried a reboot.

This is why I still pay over the odds for Zen, not that it's broken for the last 4 years. That and my being too lazy to change.

Apparently, "Zen" is how the English say "Speakeasy." Glad you've got a good ISP.
