You think the weather is bad today?

(Image may change when it's updated -- I don't know how NOAA's image links work.)

That's Tropical Storm Hanna, heading straight for us, and still expected to be a tropical storm when it's in the North Atlantic approaching Ireland on Wednesday next week.

Not as good as this time last year, when I met Typhoon Fitow.

A hard rain's a gonna fall.

(We called our contractors in upstate NY to make sure they'd finished the job on the back of our building and had taken down the scaffolding. They've already done that, so we don't have to worry about what strong winds off the lake might do with scaffolding & 6 ft high double pane windows.)

Well, an extratropical storm, not a tropical storm, but it'll still be foul weather. Current prediction at day 5 is 45kt winds.

As you might imagine, we're rather amused at the name of this particular storm.

Whether we'll be quite as amused when it finally arrives is another matter, but we're planning to harvest most of our sweetcorn this weekend, so that at least won't be damaged by any downpour.

Still significant but not tropical before it gets to you, by current forecasting; tropical when it rains on me tomorrow, maybe not by the time it hits Nova Scotia.

That distinction may not make a difference to the amount of rain, of course.

I'm hoping it will push off in a more northerly direction. My son in North Carolina seems to have weathered it alright so far, so that's alright. I can do with fewer stressors in my life.

Look at the chart again (it changed.)

Damn. I'm glad we're in the East of England.

To answer your question, yes, the chart does change. You may want to grab a static copy , or it's not going to make much sense in a week.
