So, what were you doing on the day that temperatures topped 100F at Heathrow?

I was in a loft conversion only a few miles from Heathrow discovering that hot air rises and helping [livejournal.com profile] sbisson and [livejournal.com profile] marypcb to decorate. For some reason, the paint was drying a bit faster than usual.

Here's Simon demonstrating his latest hair dye:

And here's [livejournal.com profile] dougs, who also turned up to help:

I was in black leathers and helmet on the M4, dehydrated and rather warm.

what were you doing on the day that temperatures topped 100F at Heathrow?

Trying to get back from East Anglia (parents -- mine in this case) by train, having decided not to go by car because the roads seemed likely to melt or else be full of too much other traffic heading to/back from various coasts.

'Do not travel unless absolutely necessary,' read the signs at all the stations. We thought it was, rather. After many tribulations waiting for any train at all to turn up, the journey along the section of track where we were limited to 10 mph was rather warm with no air movement (air conditioning? Pah) and I suspect it was hotter than outside at Heathrow. Then we were thrown off the train early because of a lineside fire that seemed to be taking hours to extinguish.

I did some painting outside last night, after it had cooled down a bit and the house hid me from the sun. It was actually quite pleasant to kneel on the warm stones of the patio to do it, and it dried pretty quickly. Sunday would have been, by my standards of heat, utterly impossible. You are clearly all heroic decorators or internally refrigerated or something...
