Went to see Terminator 3 in an attempt to get out of the heat. Spoiler-free capsule review follows:

Air conditioning good. Movie bad.

The foyer and ticket office were pretty hot, and I was rather worried about the auditorium. But it turned out to be at the perfect temperature -- if it had been any colder, it would have been uncomfortable with short sleeves. Kudos to Croydon Grants Warner Village. Mind you, it was a bit of a shock stepping outside and feeling the moisture being sucked out of me -- like being in America, except without the air-conditioned car and the air-conditioned hotel room.

Oh, you wanted to know about the movie.

Well, it was too long, and the car chases and fight scenes weren't as good as Terminator 2 and The Matrix (Reloaded). We could have done without the whole crypt/cemetery scene, which looked way too like Buffy with machine guns, and added very little to the plot. Nick Stahl doesn't really have the charisma to convince you that he could be the leader of the worldwide resistance. And Schwarzenegger is really getting a bit old for the role.

There were a couple of nice jokes for people who'd seen the earlier movies. The last ten minutes almost redeemed it for me, as they managed to sucker me. I caught on just before Claire Danes did, but I never thought that Hollywood would make a Terminator movie with that ending, although it was obviously necessary.

Johnny Depp with long hair, lots of jewelry, and eyeliner. And this movie gives it to you. Sigh. We saw it for the 2nd time last night.
