Does anyone know anything more about this? I ask because on Saturday I got a call on my mobile from Currys saying that my order for £900 for two digital cameras had failed their security check, and they were cancelling it. This alarmed me rather, as I hadn't placed such an order, and they had my correct name, credit card number, mobile number and address (except for the flat number), so my details have clearly leaked from somewhere. I phoned my bank, and there are no other dodgy transactions, my card has been cancelled and I'm getting a new one with a different number, and I obviously won't be liable even if the transaction does go through, which it shouldn't since Currys cancelled it. So good for Currys for having effective internal anti-fraud systems.

Must be a Plokta reader, who knows your love of superflous technology. I'd believe you'd order 900 GBP of cameras at the drop of a hat.

Glad it was caught

Happened to us 2 years ago - the bank picked it up after the event though (someone spent £700 in Waitrose!!!!) - we got our money back within 48 hours - all very efficient (bravo Lloyds TSB)

I have no idea how these things happen - we're really careful and never use our cards in dodgy looking stores and I always watch sales people like a hawk....one of life's mysteries.

Now here's a coincidence... ten minutes after reading your post I find out the same thing's happened to me (except in my case they tried to empty my bank account using a cashpoint in, of all places, Hatfield).

I asked Card Services about this alleged news story, but she denied all knowledge (though disarmingly said that this could just mean the news hadn't trickled down as far as her level yet.)

happened to me back in December. Colossal pain, it was. I had had the card for two weeks and had been in the UK for two months.
