Remember that big cruise ship I saw on my walk to work last week? As [livejournal.com profile] flickgc was stepping onto our balcony a few minutes ago, she saw one heading downstream -- it really does look too big for the river.

Comparison of the photos suggests that it's not in fact the same ship as I saw last week, but a different sodding great cruise ship that's been moored in the Pool of London for a while.

Reminds me of a TV commercial that shows here. A guy gets up in the morning, naked, pulls his curtains open and streaches - then realises he's being looked at by those in a cruise ship that'd parked beside his apartment during the night.

Around 17 years ago, a group of us (mostly fans) hired a barge and tackled the Avon Ring. One night, about halfway through, we ended up in Gloucester Docks, which was pitch black. A couple of pints at the local pub, then we all crashed out.

Sometime around 4am, the sun came up - or at least, that's what it felt like. We'd moored directly opposite a massive granary warehouse, and those guys had *huge* spotlights to ensure everyone could see what they were doing.

Thankfully, Ann and I had remembered to close the curtains.

I'm inclined to think it would be a different one - if only because staying in the Pool of London for a week wouldn't fit most people's idea of a cruise.
