My legions continue to grow. [livejournal.com profile] green_amber is now Minion i/c Vanuatu.

Any organisation providing a "walk-in" service to the public and receiving any public funding must be open for at least twelve hours per week, or half its total opening hours (whichever is less) that are not between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday. This does not apply where the service is aimed at people who are unlikely to have full-time jobs, e.g. Job Centres and OAP centres. It does apply to doctors, dentists, libraries, post offices, local government offices, passport offices, police stations, museums, art galleries, etc.

I lied. It took me about 5 minutes.

The consortium controlling my housing redevelopment have just announced their "drop in" session time. Wednesday @ 2-3 p.m. It appears inconceivable that any of the residents may work. Even settling on lunchtime would have been a help.

Can that be extended to people providing essential services like garages, telephone engineers and plumbers? (Without chargig 19 times as much?)

When is this society going to stop depending on the myth of the stay at home wifey????

Have to argue against that one. A private business should be able to operate the hours it wants. A government funded service should actually provide a service that is usable to the target group.

But the institutional truth of that is that private busineses would provide a better coverage of hours if they didn't as a cartel demand someone be at home all bloody day for when they deign to turn up (usually,,in the UK. Even DHL demand you be in all day!. )And you can bet it isn't usually the guy staying in and losing a day's holiday./...
