Tried to reboot the server this morning. Not only would it not come up, but the rescue boot off the network didn't work either. So they're reimaging the disk today, with Redhat 9. Not sure if I'll try again or not.

Meanwhile, I've redirected mail for plokta.com to the PowerBook, sitting on my ADSL connection at home. And now I'm working on the plokta.com website, although I probably won't get PHP and Mysql running for PNN.

Oh well. Interesting experiment. Better luck if you try it again.

Er, as far as I understand, Red Hat 9 isn't supported any more either.

Give it a few hours and you'll have decided to dump the ISP and run your own server from home over ADSL.

I've just placed an order for wireless broadband internet with a fixed IP address and no bandwidth cap which will (hopefully) allow me to do the same. Probably take me a while to build a suitable machine and transfer all my sites, but when I do, I expect to be paying a whole lot less.

How far does dynamic dns get you? We have recently gone to aDSL at home, but don't have a static IP, which would cost Rather More (the Australian market is screwy), so I've been wondering. Idly. I don't have time to actually set anything up, let alone really learn about the issues, but I'm curious.
