Out and About in London

Went to Tate Modern yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] braxa. I was expecting to see the weather display, but managed to keep it as a surprise for [livejournal.com profile] braxa.

What I wasn't expecting was a mass of sunbathers, especially as the "sun" doesn't actually give out any perceptible warmth.

Then on to the Lord of the Rings exhibition at the Science Museum, from which no photos since they prohibit it very sternly, although they weren't actually confiscating mobile phones and handbags as threatened. It's an interesting exhibit, but it's not terribly large -- £12 per person for about 35 minutes seems rather expensive. We'd have taken longer if we'd stopped to watch the explanatory videos, but there were crowds around them, and I expect they're mostly on the DVDs as extras.

The sunbathers are especially entertaining. I also like Eliasson's saying that talking about the weather is "a northern hemisphere" thing. Such arrogant hemispherocentrism!

Talking about the weather is a 'northern hemisphere' obsession? I think not. Silly Eliasson.

I spent 2 hours in the LOTR exhibition, but I was actively slowing myself down to stare at everything, and I've not got the DVDs so the making-of clips were interesting.

Had Orthanc returned? When I was there there was a rather empty plinth, and I wondered what fan had it in their hallway.
