Debaters Wanted

We're planning to have a balloon debate at <plokta.con> to see which of the more superfluous-seeming Hugo categories should be jettisoned, and which one should be saved, moderated by [livejournal.com profile] frandowdsofa. We have someone to speak up for the Best Graphic Story category; who would like to defend Best Semiprozine, Best Novelette, Best Related Book or Best Editor Long Form? It's currently scheduled for 17:00 on the Saturday.

(I should probably add here that the debate is not an official deliberative body of the World Science Fiction Society, and the result will not have any actual practical effect on the Hugo Awards.)

Without Best Editor Long Form, the Best Editor Hugo will continue to be clutched in the dead hand of the magazines and to a lesser extent the anthologies.

Novels are where the action is these days. The Hugos should reflect that.

I've deleted two stupid comments.

Feel free to express my argument for me during the debate.

So you couldn't decide whether to request a drawing of your head (maybe in a jar, a la futurama) or a live link via Internets?

Without Best Locus, the New York Review of Science Fiction won't have a way to keep racking up nominations, which would be a damn shame.

Last minute, I know, but is registration still open for plokta.con?
