It's been a good weekend for ebooks. Accelerando by
autopope and Someone Comes To Town, Someone Leaves Town by Cory Doctorow have both been posted under Creative Commons licenses. Download them, read them, and buy dead tree copies if you want.
This has the interesting implication that any author who has not posted their new novel as a freely downloadable ebook can just forget about winning next year's Best Novel Hugo (as has been the case for several years in the short fiction categories). You might be able to risk waiting for a nomination, and only making your novel available if you get one, but your chances of being nominated will be a whole lot better if you join the bandwagon now.
