All Your Typo Are Belong To Us
Sep. 16th, 2003 01:28 pmVerisign, who administer the .com and .net domains, have just made a little adjustment to their root servers. If you try to resolve any .com or .net domain that doesn't exist, then instead of returning the "No such domain" response, they'll redirect you to sitefinder.verisign.com. Apart from being an appalling abuse of their monopoly, this will break countless applications (e.g. email verifiers that check the source domain exists in order to weed out some spam). Words do not exist to express how terrible this is, despite which the good people of Slashdot seem to have found plenty.
